Programme Objective

The role of athletic coaches is becoming increasingly vital in Hong Kong's sports and health industry. As society places greater emphasis on healthy living, citizens are showing more enthusiasm for participating in sports, which is driving sustained growth in the market demand for professional sports coaches. Coaches are not only responsible for technical guidance but also need to know how to motivate students, foster team spirit, and assist students in setting and achieving sports goals.

In the future, the role of sports coaches will become more diverse and professional. In addition to working in traditional sports venues such as schools, fitness centres, and clubs, they will also be involved in organising large-scale sports events, promoting sports, and community health education. Furthermore, with the increasing popularity of sports science, sports medicine, and sports psychology knowledge, sports coaches need to master the latest training methods and technologies to help citizens improve their athletic performance and overall health.

This programme focuses on sports coaching and will provide students with comprehensive training, encourage them to obtain relevant professional coaching qualifications, and work closely with industry organisations such as the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China. This collaboration aims to provide students with further education and employment support, and assist them in planning their sports coaching career development path.

Fung Ho lam

"The Higher Diploma in Fitness, Coaching and Sports Management at HKCT offers highly practical curriculum content. Besides sports injury prevention and psychology courses that enhance my daily training routines, the programme also assists students in obtaining various professional sports certifications, fostering diverse development in sports capabilities.

Furthermore, HKCT provides abundant internship opportunities, allowing students to experience real work environments beyond textbook knowledge. During my two-year studies, I completed an internship at Sportsoho. These experiences not only allowed me to apply what I learned but also proved incredibly valuable. Additionally, through the “Police Mentorship Programme” at school, I secured an internship with the Police Sports and Recreation Club, which paved my way towards joining the Police Force!"

CHAN Ka Yan, Katey
"I completed my Diploma and Higher Diploma at HKCT. During these three years, my teachers and I developed strong bonds. The programmes at HKCT are very comprehensive, and the teachers are highly experienced and proficient. They not only taught us textbook knowledge but also cared about our career development; this was the most memorable part of studying at HKCT."

CHEUNG Lok Hong
"My internship programme was very rewarding. I gained new knowledge in different areas of fitness training, including body resistance exercises, cardiovascular strengthening, and weight management. All this knowledge gave me the confidence to teach others the right ways to maintain their well-being. Apart from the academic aspect, the teachers and social workers were friendly and full of humour, which made my life at HKCT rewarding and wonderful."

LO Cheuk Lam

"The curriculum of the two-year Higher Diploma programme is intensive. Besides the two main modules, sports coaching and management, the programme also includes sports injury management, individual and team sports training and sports psychology. These subjects improved my communication and leadership skills as a coach. It made me realise that a coach is not someone who only teaches sports skills to trainees, but also someone who provides them with support and suitable training advice after understanding their needs.

Apart from the curriculum, the Department of Student Development provides us with different activities and services to help us explore our potential, broaden our social networks, and even apply what we learnt in the classroom to demonstrate our strengths. The teaching staff at HKCT are just like our friends. They help us solve problems and overcome difficulties patiently by sharing their valuable experiences with us."
