Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Science and Cybersecurity

Introduction
計算機科學及網絡安全(榮譽)理學士

This programme is operated by HKCT Institute of Higher Education.

In recent years, the rapid development of digital transformation and online transactions has intensified cybersecurity challenges globally. As an international financial centre and innovation technology hub, the Hong Kong Government has responded by introducing the ‘Critical Infrastructure (Computer Systems) Bill’ to enhance overall cybersecurity standards.

To address the growing demand for cybersecurity talents, HKCT has launched the ‘Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Science and Cybersecurity’ programme. This programme delivers comprehensive cybersecurity training in core areas including operating systems, network fundamentals, and cryptography, as well as practical skills including penetration testing, digital forensics, and cybersecurity management. Students will gain hands-on experience through real-world and simulated scenarios featuring cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and attacks.

This is a full-time year 1 entry programme (Duration: 4 years). This programme also provides Year 3 entry. Please click here for more details.

Programme Objectives

This programme enables students to master core cybersecurity knowledge and practical skills, enhancing their ability to solve real-world challenges. Graduates will be equipped with the capabilities to address various cybersecurity challenges and can excel in different industries, such as finance, technology, and healthcare, becoming cybersecurity talents with applied skill.

Programme Features

  • Comprehensive Contents: The programme offers a thorough cybersecurity knowledge framework, covering penetration testing, security management, digital forensics, and various aspects of network, terminal, and software security. It also includes fundamental computer science knowledge and skills. Students can pursue additional computer science-related modules based on their interests and career development goals, broadening their career prospects.
  • Professional Facilities: State-of-the-art teaching facilities are provided for students, including ‘Security Operations Centre’ and ‘Cyber Range and Practice Centre’, offering professional hardware and system platforms.
  • Cyber Range Interconnection: HKCT cyber range serves as a Hong Kong regional centre of the Peng Cheng Laboratory national-level cyber range. It has achieved platform interconnection with the Yellow Crane Cyber Range of Huazhong University of Science and Technology located in the national network security base, the Industrial Control Cyber Security Range of Guilin University of Electronic Technology, and the Jiaxing Cyber Range of Zhejiang University.
  • Practical Experience Focus: The cyber range provides students with a real cyber attack and defence environment, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in simulated scenarios of real network vulnerabilities, threats, and attacks. In this controlled experimental environment, students can freely explore, experiment, and learn from mistakes without risking actual systems.
  • Career Preparation: Dedicated laboratory sessions enable students to enhance their technical skills in penetration testing, incident response, and cyber defence. The comprehensive facilities and abundant practical sessions help students prepare for various cybersecurity certifications such as CISSP, CISA, and CISP, ensuring students master both theoretical knowledge and practical applications through simulated examination scenarios.
  • Strong Industry Tiers: To ensure programme relevance to industry developments, we have established close partnerships with major technology companies, including cybersecurity companies like Topsec Technologies Group, Sangfor Technologies, and Integrity Technology Group, China Mobile International Limited (one of Hong Kong's top three telecommunications providers), and the Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS). Through access to the latest resources, students can stay current with the newest trends, tools, and technologies in cybersecurity, effectively addressing emerging threats.
  • Renowned Academic Partners: We cooperate with top-notch cybersecurity institutes in mainland China including Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Xidian University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University to cultivate cybersecurity talents. Moreover, we co-constructed the 'Zhejiang-Hong Kong Cross-Border Data Security Research Centre' with 'The School of Cyber Science and Technology (SCST) at Zhejiang University' to join hands to develop professional skills, product manufacturing, and technology research, etc.
