In recent years, Hong Kong has been striving to develop itself as an international innovation and technology hub, aligning with the National 14th Five-Year Plan and the development of new productive forces. Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a crucial role in innovation and technology, economic development, digital transformation, and innovation across various industries.

To meet societal development needs, the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Science and AI Engineering programme aims to nurture professionals with expertise in computer science and AI engineering, addressing the urgent market demand for AI talents. Students will acquire comprehensive knowledge and skills in artificial intelligence, including programming, data structures, algorithms, machine learning, natural language processing and computer vision, preparing them for successful careers in the AI field.

Professional Qualification

Students who enroll in the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Science and AI Engineering can apply to be 'The Hong Kong Computer Society' (HKCS) and 'China Computer Federation' (CCF) Student Member, and upon graduation, they may consider applying for HKCS Associate Member and CCF Professional Member.

Programme Objectives

This programme focuses on the practical application of AI technologies, particularly in designing AI systems, models and algorithms to solve real-world challenges. Applied AI emphasises the cross-disciplinary integration of artificial intelligence technologies across various domains. Our programme strengthens students' capabilities in AI modelling and algorithmic analysis design, enhances their practical problem-solving abilities in AI applications, and cultivates professionals who can comprehend, analyse and resolve challenges related to AI algorithmic analysis design, AI engineering technology development, and practical AI algorithm implementation.

  • Integration of Theory and Practice: The programme encompasses core AI theoretical knowledge, including engineering mathematics, computer architecture, data science, cloud computing and machine learning algorithms. It emphasises practical applications, enabling students to gain hands-on experience in computer vision, natural language processing and robotics to tackle real-world challenges.
  • Staying Ahead of AI Developments: The programme incorporates emerging AI trends and technologies, including Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and smart manufacturing. This ensures students can apply AI across different fields, master cutting-edge AI technologies, and develop comprehensive skills to meet various industry demands, thoroughly preparing them for careers in artificial intelligence.
  • Practical Experience Focus: Laboratory modules support practical learning, with approximately 30% of professional module teaching time devoted to hands-on activities, with providing students opportunities to apply theories and knowledge in real-world scenarios.
  • Comprehensive Understanding of AI Trends: We have invited AI experts, partners, academics and practitioners from overseas and the mainland. Through lectures, sharing sessions, seminars and joint research initiatives, they will provide valuable insights and industry information to enhance students' professional knowledge, skills and understanding of the latest industry trends.
  • Internship Opportunities: We collaborate with organisations in Hong Kong and the mainland, including Alibaba, Topsec Technologies Group, Sangfor Technologies, Integrity Technology Group, Palo Alto Networks, China Unicom, China Mobile and LUCULLUS. Students have opportunities to participate in corporate exchange and internship programmes, gaining practical experience in artificial intelligence, enhancing their employability.

Local Students

  • Attained HKDSE Level 3 or above in Chinese^ and English; and
    • ‘Attained’ level of ‘Citizenship and Social Development’*; and
    • Level 2 in Mathematics Compulsory Part; and
    • Level 2 in one elective subject (Performance in Applied Learning subjects would be considered) ; or
  • Pass in HKALE Chinese Language and Culture, Use of English and 1 A-Level or 2 AS-Level subjects; and Pass in 5 HKCEE subjects, including Chinese and English; or
  • 28 or above out of 42 points in International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and fulfilled the English language requirement; or
  • Aged 21 or above with at least 1 years’ working experience, and demonstration of strong interest and capability to study the programme in the admission interview; or
  • Equivalent qualifications; and
  • Pass in admission interview.

    ^ ‘Attained’ level of Applied Learning Chinese (for non-Chinese speaking students) is accepted as Chinese Language qualification for the admission, but it is not considered as an elective subject.
    * Equivalent to ‘Level 2’ for the HKDSE subject ‘Liberal Studies’ before 2024/25.

Mainland Students

Attained satisfactory results in National University Entrance Examination (GaoKao), including English (English Language Public Examinations accepted by HKCT); or equivalent qualifications.

Mainland students meeting the above requirements can apply for the first year admission and need to pass the admission interview.
