Higher Diploma in Applied Artificial Intelligence

Introduction
HKCT Higher Diploma in Applied Artificial Intelligence

In recent years, there has been a global active exploration of the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in various fields, not only to enhance work efficiency and quality but also to promote economic and technological development. The Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau proposed the ‘Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint’ at the end of 2022, aiming to transform Hong Kong into an International Innovation and Technology Centre. The blueprint emphasises the key development of industries such as artificial intelligence and data science, making technological innovation a core goal for Hong Kong's future development.

To meet the urgent market demand for AI technology talents and support Hong Kong in becoming an international hub for innovation and technology, we have launched an Higher Diploma in Applied Artificial Intelligence. This programme is designed to cultivate professionals with a solid foundation in computer science and AI engineering principles to address the challenges of global technological innovation and contribute to the future development of Hong Kong.

Professional Qualification

Students can apply to be 'The Hong Kong Computer Society' (HKCS) and 'China Computer Federation' (CCF) Student Member, and upon graduation, they may consider applying for HKCS Associate Member and CCF Professional Member.

Programme Objectives

This programme provides a comprehensive learning system focusing on the fundamental concepts, principles, and practical applications of artificial intelligence. The Higher Diploma in Applied Artificial Intelligence covers core subjects such as basic programming, data structures, and algorithms, laying a solid foundation in computer science for students. Specialised in AI applications, the programme includes elements like fundamentals of machine learning, deep learning, and AI ethics, aiding students in mastering AI technology comprehensively. Moreover, the curriculum delves into emerging areas such as robotics and Internet of Things (IoT) to ensure students stay abreast of industry trends. Emphasis is placed on practical application, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world environments through numerous laboratory modules.

Programme Features

Programme Features

  • AI Skills Development: Covering a comprehensive knowledge system in the field of AI, from an introduction to computer programming to deep learning, AI applications in robotics and the Internet of Things (IoT). Participants will master the Python language and apply their knowledge in practical scenarios such as image processing and big data processing through hands-on practice. Specialised modules in applied artificial intelligence include fundamentals of machine learning, neural networks, and AI ethics, ensuring a thorough understanding of AI technologies.
  • Immersive Practical Experience: Emphasising real-world experience with a focus on practical skills, extensive laboratory modules, and project practice enable students to translate theoretical knowledge into practical skills. Participants will build AI models, work with real datasets, develop intelligent applications, and conduct AI testing and deployment in robotics and IoT environments, gaining valuable hands-on experience. Approximately 40% of professional modules is dedicated to hands-on experiments, enhancing students' practical abilities and preparing them to tackle the diverse challenges in the field of applied artificial intelligence.
