  • Contents

    The programme covers three major areas: Fitness Training, Sports Coaching and Sports Management. It aims at equipping students with professional knowledge and skills in the sports industry.  Emphasis is put on both theory and practice, so that students can acquire practical and specific industry knowledge and skills, and build a career in the sports industry.

     

  • Course Feature

    Learning from Practice

    • Both the theory and application of three main areas that are needed in the industry are emphasised, namely, fitness, sports coaching, and sports management. Graduates can choose to study further, or develop their career in sports management and coaching professions.
    • Students are also expected to learn from practice. They are arranged to take part in different roles in large-scale sports events and competitions as staff members / volunteers.

    Professional Qualification

    • Hong Kong Coaching Committee: graduates are eligible to apply for the Qualification Validation of Coach Accreditation Programme Level 3 Sports-General Theory Coach within five years upon graduation.
    • Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China: The programme has been included in the Qualification Exemption System, “Physical Fitness Foundation Certificate” can be exempted by Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China when enrolling for any Physical Fitness Association’s instructor certification course or examinations.

    Chinese as Medium of Instruction

    • The programme is taught (supplemented by English terminology) and assessed in Chinese so students can master subject knowledge more easily with their first language, and it meets the operation and needs of the industry.

    Articulation pathway

    • Graduates are eligible to apply for Year 3 entry of "Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sports Management with Coaching" offered by HKCT Institute of Higher Education (i.e., Bachelor’s Degree programme at Level 5 in Qualification Framework), and apply for $10,000 Internal Student Articulation Scholarship.
  • Entry Requirements

    Level 2 in 5 HKDSE subjects*#; or

    1 pass in HKAL / 2 passes in HKASL (and 5 passes in HKCEE*) ; or

    Holder of Diploma for Tertiary Studies; or

    Holder of Yi Jin Diploma; or

    Holder of Pre-Associate Degree / Diploma; or

    Aged 21 or above with 2 years or above working experience in related industry(s); or

    Equivalent qualification; and Pass in admission interview

    # At most two Applied Learning subjects at Attained or above level.*Including Chinese Language and English Language

    Year 2: HK$58,450

     

    This programme (non-laboratory-based) is subsidised under Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP). In the 2020/21 academic year, a subsidy of up to $21,400 per academic year will be provided to each eligible local student. The first-year tuition fee after maximum subsidy amount is $31,766.

     

    (Year 2 tuition fees will be reviewed and adjusted on the basis of inflation and other factors. All tuition fees are subject to the final approval from the Education Bureau.)

    The Programme consists of a compulsory module of Internship in sports industry, for instance, National Sports Associations, Non-Governmental Organisations, commercial sports companies, private recreation clubs and camp sites. This helps students to get familiar with the industry and enhance their competitiveness after graduation.

  • Professional Qualification

    Hong Kong Coaching Committee: Graduates are eligible to apply for the Qualification Validation of Coach Accreditation Programme Level 3 Sports-General Theory Coach within five years.

    Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China: The programme has been exempted the qualification of “Physical Fitness Foundation Certificate” by Physical Fitnes Association of Hong Kong, China. Graduates of the programme can apply the other instructor certificate programmes/examinations directly without studying the course of “Physical Fitness Foundation Certificate”.

    Programmes provided by HKCT are very comprehensive and diversified, which include sport coaching and sports management. Some programmes were being taught by current or former Hong Kong team members, so I could acquire professional skills and knowledge of different sports, such as track cycling, rugby and physical fitness training. Furthermore, summer internship provided me invaluable practical experience, which enhancing me to be a successful coach in my career path.

    Career Prospects
    Graduates can take up sport, fitness and sports management positions (involving training programmes, events and competitions) in the public or private sector, which encompasses schools, sports associations, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, non-profit organisations, residential clubhouses, private sports and recreation clubs, sport promotion companies and the media.  They can also join disciplined services *, or take up physiotherapist assistant positions.
