In recent years, the rapid development of digital transformation and online transactions has intensified cybersecurity challenges globally. As an international financial centre and innovation technology hub, Hong Kong has passed the Protection of Critical Infrastructures (Computer Systems) Bill into law to enhance its overall cybersecurity standards.

To meet the urgent demand for cybersecurity professionals, HKCT offers the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Science and Cybersecurity. This programme provides comprehensive knowledge and hands-on training in core areas like operating systems, networking, cryptography, penetration testing, digital forensics, and security management. Students can gain practical experience through real-world and simulated cyber threat scenarios within a cyber range environment.

Professional Qualification

Students who enrol in the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Science and Cybersecurity can apply to become Student Members of 'The Hong Kong Computer Society' (HKCS) and 'China Computer Federation' (CCF). Upon graduation, they may consider applying to become HKCS Associate Members and CCF Professional Members.

Programme Objectives

This programme equips students with the essential knowledge and practical skills to tackle real-world cybersecurity challenges. Graduates will be prepared to address diverse security threats and excel in industries such as finance, technology, and healthcare.

  • Comprehensive Content: The programme offers a thorough cybersecurity knowledge framework, covering penetration testing, security management, digital forensics, cyber range training and various aspects of network, terminal, and software security. It also includes fundamental computer science knowledge and skills. Students can pursue additional computer science-related modules based on their interests and career development goals, broadening their career prospects.
  • Professional Facilities: State-of-the-art teaching facilities are provided for students, including a ‘Security Operations Centre’ and a ‘Cyber Range and Practice Centre’, offering professional hardware and system platforms.
  • Cyber Range Interconnection: The HKCT cyber range serves as a Hong Kong regional centre of the Peng Cheng Laboratory national-level cyber range. It has achieved platform interconnection with the Yellow Crane Cyber Range of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (located in the national network security base), the Industrial Control Cyber Security Range of Guilin University of Electronic Technology, and the Jiaxing Cyber Range of Zhejiang University. 
  • Practical Experience Focus: The cyber range provides students with a real cyber attack and defence environment, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in simulated scenarios of real network vulnerabilities, threats, and attacks. This controlled experimental environment allows students to explore, experiment, and develop skills in penetration testing and defence.
  • Career Preparation: Dedicated laboratory sessions enable students to enhance their technical skills in penetration testing, incident response, and cyber defence. The comprehensive facilities and abundant practical sessions help students prepare for various cybersecurity certifications such as CISSP, CISA, and CISP, ensuring students master both theoretical knowledge and practical applications through simulated examination scenarios.
  • Strong Industry Ties: To ensure programme relevance to industry developments, we have established close partnerships with major technology companies, including cybersecurity companies like Topsec Technologies Group, Sangfor Technologies, and Integrity Technology Group, China Mobile International Limited (one of Hong Kong's top three telecommunications providers), and the Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS). Through access to the latest resources, students can stay current with the newest trends, tools, and technologies in cybersecurity, effectively addressing emerging threats.
  • Renowned Academic Partners: We cooperate with top-notch cybersecurity institutes in the Chinese Mainland including Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Xidian University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University to cultivate cybersecurity talents. Moreover, we have co-constructed the 'Zhejiang-Hong Kong Cross-Border Data Security Research Centre' with The School of Cyber Science and Technology (SCST) at Zhejiang University to join hands in developing professional skills, product manufacturing, and technology research.

The Centre allows cybersecurity programme students to interact with virtual and cyber world status in real-time. Moreover, it allows a wide range of teaching and learning activities such as scene simulation, network attack and defense, network invasion and maintenance, competition, research, testing and practice. HKCT cyber range serves as a Hong Kong regional centre of the national-level cyber range, and it has achieved platform interconnection with multiple cross-border cyber ranges.

The tuition fee above is under 2026/27 Cohort.
This programme is subsidised under Non-means-tested Subsidy Scheme (NMTSS). In the 2026/27 academic year, a subsidy of up to $35,120 per academic year will be provided to each eligible local student admitted to this programme. The first-year tuition fee after subsidy is $59,460.

What exactly will I learn in this Cybersecurity programme? 
Cybersecurity is a comprehensive discipline that combines technical skills, management strategies, and legal regulations. This programme is designed to cultivate professionals with all-round technical capabilities, covering three core pillars:

  • Offensive & Defensive Techniques: You will master Penetration Testing and Vulnerability Assessment to proactively detect and fix system weaknesses.
  • Defence Architecture & Incident Response: Learn to build secure network architectures and apply encryption technologies. You will also be trained in Digital Forensics to manage security incidents and minimise data loss.
  • Infrastructure & Compliance Management: Beyond coding and networking, the curriculum covers operating system management and information security regulations. You will learn how to ensure enterprise IT infrastructure complies with international security standards. 

What are the career prospects after graduating with a BSc in Cybersecurity? 
With the Hong Kong Government’s implementation of the Protection of Critical Infrastructure (Computer System) Bill, the demand for cybersecurity talent across all sectors is surging. 
Graduates of the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Science and Cybersecurity have vast development opportunities. You can start in technical roles and advance to management positions. Key career paths include:

Is this Cybersecurity degree recognised by the Government? How does it differ from other institutions? 
Absolutely recognised. This programme is accredited at QF Level 5 under the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework, the same level as bachelor's degrees offered by the UGC-funded universities.

Furthermore, the HKCT Cybersecurity degree is included in the Government’s Non-means-tested Subsidy Scheme (NMTSS). Eligible local students can receive an annual subsidy of up to HK$35,120 (for the 2026/27 academic year). 

I hold an Associate Degree or Higher Diploma. Can I enter directly into Year 3? 
Absolutely. If you hold a Higher Diploma or Associate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, you can seamlessly articulate into Year 3 of this programme. You will spend two years refining your professional skills, preparing you for immediate entry into the cybersecurity industry. 
 
If you hold a sub-degree in a non-IT discipline, you are welcome to apply for Year 1 entry

Tuition fees and subsidies are to be reviewed and adjusted annually on various factors.
