Programme Contents

This programme focuses on providing students with safety, technological and operational knowledge of the modern railway industry. Students will be introduced the roles, responsibilities, skill sets and qualifications required for various positions of the industry. The programme also enhances students’ awareness on the demand and development of local and overseas railway systems in the future.

If students attained “Attained with Distinction (I)” in this ApL course^, it is comparable to Level 3 of the Category A subjects of HKDSE examination; if they attained “Attained with Distinction (II)”, it is comparable to Level 4 of the Category A subjects of HKDSE examination.

 

Programme Features

  • Train driving simulation, learn the daily routine of train captains
  • Railway facility visit to learn the actual working environment, e.g. MTR Depot, MTR Station, Operation Control Center, Operation Training Center and MTR Academy
  • Produce a preliminary design of a new metro line with appropriate technologies in a given city, experience the planning of the railway network firsthand

MTR Academy

  • Produce the most suitable teaching materials for Hong Kong students, provide professional advice for Railway Studies' development
  • The tutors of Railway Studies are experienced professionals working in Railway Industry, including Engineers from different aspects, Shift Station Master, Trainer of Train Captain and etc.
  • Tutors of MTR Academy will share their related working experiences to the students and provide related information of further study and career development

Positions at entry level: train captain, train station officer, assistant logistics officer, electrical and mechanical tradesman or technician, operation officer or project officer in transport-related industry, etc.

Positions at managerial level: senior station officer, station manager, train crew manager, electrical and mechanical engineer, maintenance engineer, operation or project manager in transport-related industry, etc.

^ According to the Education Bureau Circular Memorandum No. 40/2017, applicants of Associate Degree and Higher Diploma programmes are allowed to use up to two Applied Learning (ApL) subjects in the application for entrance requirements. However, ApL Chinese (for non-Chinese speaking students) is not applicable and the existing levels of results, i.e. "Attained" and "Attained with Distinction", will continue to be used.
