Programme Contents
This programme features both theory and practice of moving image production and broadcasting; focus on nurturing video producers who are able to develop a media project from concept, master video production to monitor the quality of product; strengthen students' critical thinking and team work. Students learn from practicum, which will lay a good foundation for their future careers. In particular, creative thinking, aesthetic sense, filming and editing are essential skills for professional moving image producers who are required to possess all-round practical skills to tackle all kinds of challenges and difficulties during productions.

Programme Features

  • HKCT provides professional moving-image filming and post-production equipment such as high definition production studio, audio booth, outside broadcasting facilities, aerial filming drone quadcopter and 3 axis gimbals stabilizer.
  • Professional talks and seminars by experienced practitioners in the industry will be arranged.
  • Students can enhance their practical skills and accumulate production experiences through practical exercises and experiential learning activities
  • Student are also encouraged to contribute their creativity and design concepts in responding to and solving problems related to current social issues.

Graduation Path

Graduates may further study degree in media production or related disciplines. More than 90% of graduates are employed in the media production industry. Graduates can take up various positions such as assistant producer, producer, production assistant, cameraman, video editor, post-production operator, duty director, AV support technician, and media-related administrative staff / coordinator.

Students may be arranged for internship in 4As advertising company/student enterprise/related overseas organization to obtain practical work experience.

  • Successful completion of Secondary 6 (Level 2 in 5 HKDSE subjects*); or
  • Successful completion of Secondary 7 (1 pass in HKAL or 2 passes in HKAS Level subjects; and 5 passes in HKCEE*); or
  • Holder of Diploma for Tertiary Studies; or
  • Holder of Diploma Yi Jin / Yi Jin Diploma; or
  • Holder of Pre-Associate Degree / Diploma; or
  • Aged 21 or above with 1 year relevant working experience in related industry(s); or
  • Equivalent qualifications; And
  • Pass in admission interview.

*Including Chinese Language and English Language; at most two Applied Learning subjects achieved a level of "Attained" or above would be considered on a case-by-case basis

The above tuition fee is for 2020/21 Cohort.
This programme is subsidised under Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP). In the 2020/2021 academic year, a subsidy of up to $37,300 per academic year will be provided to each eligible local student admitted to this laboratory-based programme. The first-year tuition fee after subsidy is $15,866. HKCT offers the lowest tuition fee after deduction of SSSDP maximum subsidy when comparing with other institutions’ higher diploma programmes in the same discipline.
Tuition fee in 2021/22 is subject to the final approval from the Education Bureau.
