Introduction
HKCT Higher Diploma in Creative Design and Media (Moving Image)
This programme nurtures video producers who are able to develop a media project from concept, to master the video production and monitor the quality of production.
 
 
This programme is subsidised under Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP). HKCT offers the lowest tuition fee after deduction of SSSDP maximum subsidy when comparing with other institutions’ higher diploma programmes in the same discipline.

Programme Contents
Higher Diploma in Creative Design and Media (Moving Image) features both theory and practice of moving image production and broadcasting; focus on nurturing video producers who are able to develop a media project from concept, master video production to monitor the quality of product; strengthen students' critical thinking and team work. Students learn from practicum, which will lay a good foundation for their future careers. In particular, creative thinking, aesthetic sense, filming and editing are essential skills for professional moving image producers who are required to possess all-round practical skills to tackle all kinds of challenges and difficulties during productions.

Programme Features

  • Professional Equipment: HKCT provides professional moving-image filming and post-production equipment such as high definition production studio, audio booth, outside broadcasting facilities, aerial filming drone quadcopter and 3 axis gimbals stabilizer.
  • Industry Networking: Professional talks and seminars by experienced practitioners in the industry will be arranged.
  • Diverse Opportunities: Students can enhance their practical skills and accumulate production experiences through practical exercises and experiential learning activities
  • Software at Industrial Level: The programme includes different professional software such as Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Animate, Dreamweaver, etc.
  • No Written Assessment: Students are assessed by professional practice and project assignments.
  • Career Oriented: The programme is career-oriented which emphasizes practical and applied learning, students could have more opportunities to use professional equipment and software. 
  • Small Class Teaching: Lectures are conducted in small class size, students could receive more individual attention.
  • Membership Recognition: Students are eligible to apply for student membership of Hong Kong Design Association (HKDA)

Entry Requirements
  1. Attained Level 2 in 5 HKDSE subjects#, including Chinese and English [each applicant is allowed to use not more than two Applied Learning subjects at “Attained” level as equivalent to Level 2 in the application]^; or
  2. Pass in 1 A-Level or 2 AS-Level subjects in HKALE; and 5 passes in HKCEE including Chinese Language and English Language; or 
  3. Holder of Diploma Yi Jin/ Diploma of Applied Education; or
  4. Holder of Diploma for Tertiary Studies; or 
  5. Holder of Pre-Associate Degree; or 
  6. Holder of Diploma and 
    - the qualification should be awarded by one of the local or overseas recognised tertiary institutions / post-secondary colleges; and 
    - the length of study is at least 450 teaching hours; or 
  7. Aged 21 or above with 1 year working experience; or 
  8. Equivalent qualifications; 
    AND 
  9. Pass the admission interview. 

#If one of the five HKDSE subjects considered is “Citizenship and Social Development”, the general admission requirement shall be “Attained” instead of “Level 2”. 
^Applied Learning Chinese (for non-Chinese speaking students) is in general accepted as Chinese Language qualification, but it is not considered as an elective subject.

In the 2024/25 academic year, a subsidy of up to $39,890 per academic year will be provided to each eligible local student admitted to this laboratory-based programme. The first-year tuition fee after subsidy is $16,918. HKCT offers the lowest tuition fee after deduction of SSSDP maximum subsidy when comparing with other institutions’ higher diploma programmes in the same discipline. Please note that only local students* are eligible for the relevant subsidy.
