Research is an extremely important part of the Sunderland School of Art and Design and it forms the content of this course. We use a variety of teaching and learning methods that include lectures, seminars, critiques, workshops and practical demonstrations supported by a range of guest speakers from diverse academic and industry backgrounds.

- Sunderland has several specialized research groups such as in new media, photography, fine art, and design
- Elements of research in Art and Design in Sunderland was judged to be 'world-leading' by the latest Research Excellence Framework.
- Industry Connection: Lectures are mainly conducted by representatives of different areas in the industry. Students could learn more about the trends in the industry. Design students will have access to industry-standard resources at HKCT and HK Productivity Council to use the fabrication resources
- Professional Equipment: Lectures are mainly held at Mac Studio, students have an excellent study experience with the latest software
- No Written Assessment: Students are assessed by professional practice and assignments
- No Group Project Assignments: Individual assignments are designed, students can control their assignment progress flexibly.
- One-on-One Teaching: Dissertation is conducted in one-on-one teaching, increasing the interaction between students and supervisors
