Screening "Chinese Doctors" on National Day Flag-Raising Ceremony to Pay Tribute to National Medical Workers

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, HKCT (HKCT Institute of Higher Education and Hong Kong College of Technology) held a National Day flag-raising ceremony this morning, with nearly 300 students, teachers, alumni, and former staff gathered at the HKCT Jockey Club Undergraduate Campus. They faced the national flag and sang the national anthem together, creating a solemn and grand atmosphere.

CHAN Cheuk Hay, member of the National Committee of the CPPCC and President of HKCT stated that the 75th National Day is a significant occasion. Over the past 75 years, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the country has achieved two miracles: rapid economic development and long-term social stability. The great motherland has undergone earth-shattering changes, progressing from standing up, to becoming prosperous, and now to becoming strong while national rejuvenation has entered an irreversible historical process. In Hong Kong, this year marks the 1st National Day after the completion of legislation for Article 23 of the Basic Law. It symbolises Hong Kong's official entry into a new era of stability and prosperity. This year, HKCT’s research team successfully passed national Antarctic scientific research tests with our prototype equipment. This achievement further enhances the patriotic education for students and marks a step forward towards becoming an application-oriented science university, highlighting the qualities of being "reliable and forerunning". He encourages teachers and students to learn from the country's martyrs and heroes, as well as from the predecessors of HKCT, to establish ideals and aspirations, and to contribute to the modernisation of China, the construction of a strong nation, and the great cause of national rejuvenation.

HKCT campuses are adorned with national and regional flags, presenting a joyous and festive scene. Following the flag-raising ceremony, HKCT held an i-Opening class and screened the mainland blockbuster film "Chinese Doctors," which grossed over 1.3 billion yuan at the box office. The film depicts the outbreak of COVID-19 in Wuhan just before the Spring Festival in 2020. A large number of patients flocked to Jinyintan Hospital, a specialised infectious disease hospital, was overwhelmed with patients pushing medical staff to their limits. At this critical juncture, medical teams from Shanghai, Guangdong, and other regions rushed to Wuhan to provide support and chose to face the challenge together. The film's portrayal of their selfless dedication, their willingness to rush to the aid of their compatriots despite the risk of infection, deeply moved the teachers and students. It allowed them to experience the spirit of national unity and mutual support, embodying the principle of "when one place is in difficulty, aid comes from all quarters."

As a long-established patriotic higher education institution in Hong Kong, HKCT has always adhered to the principle of patriotism, and caring for students. It is committed to upholding its beliefs, cultivating integrity in students, enabling them to distinguish right from wrong, and contributing to the country and society.
