Experiencing Minority Cultures on a Guizhou Exchange Programme
At the invitation of our sister college in Guizhou, Guizhou Communication Polytechnic University (GCPU), a delegation comprising teachers and students from the Faculty of Social Sciences at HKCT traveled to Guizhou from September 2 to 8, 2024, to participate in the “Zhixing Guizhou” exchange progammes, jointly organised by GCPU and Anshun Technical College.
The one-week exchange programme offered a rich and diverse itinerary. Participants visited the world-renowned Baling River Bridge, a magnificent 1,560-meter-long structure spanning a vast canyon, and experienced its impressive scale. They engaged in interactive exchanges with students and faculty from both Guizhou institutions. The group also explored the Yunshanzhai ancient architectural complex, Huangguoshu Waterfall, Huamao Village in Zunyi City, the Guizhou Provincial Museum, Library, and Geological Museum, gaining deeper insights into Guizhou's culture, natural environment, economic development, and architectural characteristics. A highlight for the students was learning traditional Miao and Tujia batik and tie-dye techniques, experiencing these minority art forms while also understanding their life and education.
The construction of bridges not only facilitates interpersonal connections, but also accelerates economic development, and improves the quality of life. Likewise, we hope this exchange will strengthen communication and collaboration between HKCT and our sister colleges in Guizhou.
